ABOUT
BOB BOYD
THE SHORT VERSION
I am a smart, well-trained lawyer with a successful track record. For personal and professional reasons, I am incredibly dedicated to helping people. If you tell me the truth and respect my counsel, I will provide you with the legal defense you need. I will get you through this.
THE LONG VERSION
EARLY YEARS
I was born to a hard-working family in Pasadena, California in 1966. My dad was an electrician and business agent for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and my mom was a bookkeeper.
COLLEGE YEARS
At 15, I was the youngest student ever to attend Barstow College. At age 16, I worked as a peer counselor and taught adults with special needs to read, and at age 17, I worked as a forklift operator. Even then, I wasn’t afraid of hard work; in fact, I enjoyed it. In 1990, I graduated from San Francisco State University with honors.
LAW SCHOOL YEARS
I got married shortly thereafter and lived in the heart of the San Francisco Tenderloin where I worked as a bicycle messenger and began my studies at Golden Gate University Law School.
This is where I developed my interest in criminal law. While I studied to become a lawyer, I served as a teaching assistant, lecturing students and editing criminal law books. I also began doing immigration and asylum work in concert with the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC). In 1996, I earned my JD with honors.
EARLY EXPERIENCE IN OAKLAND
I started as an independent defense lawyer in Oakland, litigating juvenile and criminal cases. I took on whatever came my way, including work from the Alameda County Bar Association as a court-appointed defense attorney. It was a tremendous experience; I learned a lot in a hurry.
EARLY EXPERIENCE AS A PROSECUTOR
It wasn’t long before I moved to Lake County to serve in the County District Attorney’s Office, where I prosecuted on narcotics, sex crimes, violent crimes and others. I became a member of the California Narcotics Officer Association and received specialized training in this area (few defense lawyers can say that).
A TURNING POINT
Then my son, Jesse, was born and that changed everything. He was 2lbs at birth and not breathing. He lived, but both of us were changed by the experience. As with most challenges, there was a silver lining: I got a big dose of perspective and courage. No matter how bad it gets, I’m with you. For Jesse, I became fearless.
FINDING MY PASSION - BECOMING A DEFENSE ATTORNEY
I moved to Mendocino County, worked in the DA’s office, and then decided I really wanted to be a criminal defense lawyer. Since then, I’ve developed a great reputation with judges, prosecutors, fellow defense lawyers, law enforcement officers, and clients. They trust me to be a straight shooter with integrity who will give 100% for his clients. They know I keep confidential information private; I do not lie, and I am 100% accountable for my work. I stand by my reputation.
